What is NEMO?

Introduction

N.E.M.O. (the Near Earth Monitoring Organization) was founded in 1890 CE by Prince Dakkar after his discovery of an alien space craft at the bottom of the south Atlantic. Our mission is to monitor and investigate any potential alien activity on or off Earth, and detect and defend against any E.L.E.s (extinction level events) of extraterrestrial origin.

Since its founding, our organization has grown into an international task force, often working in conjunction with various government agencies. Although always kept secret from the public, we have recruited and employed many of the most capable scientific minds of the last 130 years. N.E.M.O. activities are, in general, conducted without the civilian public’s knowledge.

The Multiverse

Until the year 2021 CE, the Earth existed within a universe which we now call “The Land of Nod.” After an intergalactic conflict and the unleashing of a being called Chaos from its prison, a multiverse was born from the death of The Land of Nod.

We now exist within one universe among many in this multiverse, and are monitoring a new threat which seemingly originates from some sort of “space between the universes.”

In light of the current crisis, the N.E.M.O. Online Database has become available to a limited group of individuals. The database is comprised of everything NEMO has learned about The Land of Nod, the current multiverse, and the various individuals and species who have played a role in intergalactic affairs throughout the ages.

2020 Archive III: The Missing Stars

When NEMO started to correlate the arrival times of the GW and RF signals with nightly astronomical sky surveys, it was discovered that most of the signals were received on the same nights that stars had gone “missing” from the sky surveys. A single “missing” star in a survey is not a cause for alarm, as it is usually due to a damaged sensor or a software error. But these “missing” stars did not return in the next night’s survey, or in the ones that followed. NEMO began to seriously consider that these star systems may have been destroyed by extraterrestrials.

Dozens of star systems have disappeared since the summer of 2020, and the frequency with which NEMO is receiving the correlated GW and RF transmissions has accelerated, with new signals received almost nightly. The vast distance between the stars which are disappearing suggests coordination and/or communication across distances of thousands of parsecs - this may suggest that faster-than-light travel or even limited time travel are among the capabilities of the extraterrestrials.

2020 Archive II: GW and RF Cross-Analysis

In late 2020, NEMO’s understanding of the extraterrestrial situation started to change. While working for their previous organizations, some of the NEMO scientists began to detect anomalous gravitation radiation and inexplicably correlated signals in the radio frequency spectrum.

In May, NEMO had the idea to simultaneously analyze the GW and RF signals, and discovered that when jointly decoded, they seemed to contain repeated packets or “phrases” of information. In fact, it was effectively statistically impossible for these complex patterns to emerge from natural, random processes. It became clear to us that these signals constituted, or at least formed a portion of, some form of communication.

The amount of power it would take to create a gravitational wave with sufficient amplitude to serve as a reliable form of communication is far beyond anything mankind has devised thus far. This alone was cause for great concern: the extraterrestrials NEMO was eavesdropping on clearly had capabilities that absolutely dwarf our own.

2020 Archive I: Evidence of Extraterrestrials

The initial clues to the presence of extraterrestrial life were plenty - some of which have even grazed the primetime spotlight throughout the 20th and 21st century. Examples abound:

  • The repeated sighting of a “Rhino-man” in various locales, often reported to have a glowing green horn.

  • 10,000+ year old cave paintings depicting pods of enormous whales seemingly flying through the air; remarkably similar paintings have been found in regions which had no known contact with one another.

  • Recently declassified footage from the U.S. government depicting a variety of “UFOs” with both organic and mechanic appearances.

And the list goes on. Despite an ever-growing body of evidence of to support the claim that we are visited (apparently quite frequently!) by extraterrestrial life, there was no direct cause for concern as none of the reported encounters had been hostile.
